Chair, Environmental Studies Program
LEWIS & CLARK COLLEGE invites applications for a tenure-line position
as Chair of the Environmental Studies Program, beginning Fall 2005.
Ph.D. or terminal degree required; rank open. We seek an individual
from within any field in the natural or social sciences or the
humanities, with interdisciplinary experience in environmental studies,
whose expertise will strengthen and complement our present curriculum.
Teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Environmental Studies
and the Senior Seminar, plus courses in the individual's specialty and
in the College's general education program. Ability to teach a course
in environmental policy preferred but not required. The teaching load
is four courses per year for the first three years, and five courses in
following years. Administrative responsibilities include program
management and development. Evidence of excellent teaching, scholarly
achievement, and administrative effectiveness are essential. Review of
applications will begin on October 15th, 2004 and continue until the
position is filled. Please include: (1) a curriculum vitae; (2) a
letter of application which includes a statement of educational
philosophy, teaching experience and interests, research interests, and
a description of the challenges and opportunities faced by
undergraduate environmental studies programs; (3) evidence of teaching
effectiveness; (4) sample of scholarship; and (5) three letters of
