Publication of a reference book about evolutionary theory in French.
Les mondes darwiniens. L'évolution de l'évolution, edited by Thomas
Heams (Agro Paris Tech), Philippe Huneman (CNRS, Paris), Guillaume
Lecointre (MNHN, Paris) and Marc Silberstein, is coming out in
september. Preface by Jean Gayon, postface by Richard Lewontin. This
1200 pages long book includes about 40 chapters dealing with many
aspects and issues of evolutionary theories, ranging from population
genetics, molecular biology and Evo Devo to medicine, sociology,
robotics and ethics. The chapters present an up-to-date state of the art
about their topic and often argue for a specific position. They are
divided in a general section presenting the main evolutionary concepts
(inheritance, filiation, adaptation, selection etc.) and a more
specialised section, divided between theoretical issues proper to
biology, and darwinian themes outside biology. A particular section is
devoted to Evolutionary psychology. The book is the only one of its kind
in French and quite all the papers are original.
