We are interested in a discussion on the biodiversity knowledge in tropical countries enhanced by the foundations of Museums in Europe. We analise the contributions of collections by mostly foreign naturalists to Brazil's animal species descriptions from 1808 when the royal portuguese family came to Brazil until 1831, after the Brazil Independence. We would enjoy hearing from other countries. It would be interesting to compare the action of different european countries.
