One of the most important features of an ISHPSSB meeting is the opportunity to gather together, network, and to have a convivial experience. This meeting is no different, and we have a variety of ways in which you can participate!

Our main virtual ‘location’ for all activities will be GatherTown.com. To further enhance online collectivity, look at the ISHPSSB conference dinner playlist. Until one week before the conference, we ask attendees to submit up to 3 songs (using Google Forms). Based on these submissions, a playlist will be built and provided to conference attendees to play in local or glocal hubs via Spotify.

A kick-off event will be held on July 12, 1:00-2:00 pm (Eastern Daylight Time) at our Opening Social Hour on GatherTown.com: please attend to hear more on the options below and to mingle as you might for the pre-dinner drinks. This session also will allow people to connect with others who may wish to participate in a virtual/glocal hub dinner.

Event options

  1. Plan a local hub dinner: arrange a get-together in your local area, public health restrictions allowing, and have a meal together; go onto GatherTown.com and meet up with others who are dining virtually or in person in local hubs. Make sure to post your menu/recipes to Twitter and/or Facebook, tagging as #ISH21banquet and nominate the challenge in which you are participating, and then post photos or similar afterwards.

  2. Plan a virtual/glocal hub dinner: same as (1) but bring together people (virtually on GatherTown.com) with whom you want to converse and arrange to cook together, then eat, discuss, and argue. Again, make sure to post your menu/recipes to Twitter and/or Facebook, tagging as #ISH21banquet and nominate the challenge in which you are participating, and then post photos or similar afterwards.

Challenges

There will be three prizes for which dinner participants can compete:

  1. most phylogenetically diverse dish/menu
  2. most sustainable dish/menu
  3. dish/menu that best captures the spirit of ISHPSSB

As noted above, you should post your responses to the challenges on social media, including details of why you think it responds to the challenge and photos. For those not on social media, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and the ISHPSSB social media team will share the submissions online.

The ISHPSSB council will serve as the jury that awards the prizes. Prizes will be awarded during the awards ceremony and results shared via social media.
