This workshop reassessed the modern philosophical debate on function in the dual perspective of (1) malfunction (or dysfunction), and (2) with respect to the use of such concepts in both the biological and the social sciences. Early-career scholars in the history and philosophy of the life sciences (including medicine) and early-career social scientists were invited to apply.
The meeting took place on September 5–9, 2016 at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research in Klosterneuburg near Vienna, Austria. The Call for Papers was posted at http://www.easpls2016.kli.ac.at. The booklet can be downloaded here (88pg PDF).
A report on this workshop was published in the Fall 2016 ISHPSSB newsletter, as well as a thematic issue of Biological Theory with an introduction by Isabella Sarto-Jackson (Biological Theory 13 (1):1-3).
